2010 Junction Launceston timelines and works in progress - early stages

.... first batches of small business card size original artworks ready for the up and coming foundart series. these utilise materials from the buried paper series ( see all about buried papers here ) and text from Herbert Read's The Art of Sculpture; specifically the chapter on The Image of Man. ... Another batch are reliant on blocks of colour - its winter here but colour never leaves me - i even find it in greys ... the landscape and the sea is creeping in  - how can it not when you live on an island? >>> Gina

it begins - foundart series - Launceston 2010

    Sunday, May 23, 2010 it begins Although i was thinking of conducting another foundart series when travelling to switzerland it was very much in the percolating stage ... the original one i did used 'vessels' as a theme ... vessels as in shape, form, what is held within, mind and body ... this time i wanted a different theme /concept but had no idea what ... and as i say, ideas were peroclating while i continued to sift through the myriad of stuff i am interested in and trying to nail down ONE thing that i could run with. meantime ... May 15 i met with a friend who originally contacted me to take some photos as part of a booklet being published for Junction 2010 Arts Conference to be held in Launceston in August. That job did not eventuate but somewhere along the line the organiser of Junction 2010 heard about my foundart series and through my friend, the idea has taken off ... now i am on a deadline to get the idea off the...

2010 FOUNDART series working notes & the concept

19 June 2010 The  foundart  series has the intent of being lost and later found by someone, unexpectedly, in unexpected places. Whilst the actual finding is a n intimate encounter, the concept comes alive online with the founder logging in to record their claim and comment on how, what, where, whatever. Place has always been central to my sense of well being. Currently a sense of place and my place within it informs my arts practice on the visual plane as well as the intimate - worlds within worlds of the micro-macro. Working viscerally thoughts, feelings, visions and dreams are expressed in layers of texture and colour.  The rectangular format of the business card size pieces does not frame the view or mimic the world but these aspects are contained within the line, shapes, colour or texture; using paint, collage, text, stenciling and buried papers prepared by myself.  Exploring a beautiful space is created in that area below the threshold of consciousn...
