works in progress 2 . 2010 Junction Launceston

this batch is utilising aspects of the cards that came out of the small collages being made for the up and coming foundart series .... i colour copied the cards onto watercolour paper and punched out circles in two sizes using these on this batch of the foundart series. some are combined with text from Herbert Read's 'The Art of Sculpture' and the chapter on 'The Image of Man' and others are combined with my own calligraphy cut up. also, pieces that have cut up calligraphy that has been woven to the size of the card and glued in place. these are all going to be scanned individually, numbered and listed on this site ready for 'losing' so the finder can come to this site and comment on their 'foundart'.

2010 Junction Launceston doing doing doing - progressing - foundart series

lots of fun throwing ideas and paint around, cutting up copies of calligraphy, punching circles and stencilling.  although these are pieces are small (business card size) that will be 'lost' (to be found) they are created with the materials i use for any artworks i make - top quality acrylics, rag content paper, archival glues and media where possible and as all artists know there is no less assessment, consideration, risk and work in a small piece than in a large one. fun though and as i am trying to think of different things for each set (of 13) i am finding and trialling some ideas that will translate to pieces for the shop ... exciting !  here are some pics of in progress ... looking for that one photo among 1,000s

2010 Junction Launceston the artist's statement - A BEAUTIFUL SPACE

The foundart series has the intent of being lost and later found by someone, unexpectedly, in unexpected places. Whilst the actual finding is an intimate encounter, the concept comes alive online with the founder logging in to record their claim and comment on how, what, where, whatever. Place has always been central to my sense of well being. Currently a sense of place and my place within it informs my arts practice on the visual plane as well as the intimate worlds within worlds of the micro-macro. Working viscerally thoughts, feelings, visions and dreams are expressed in layers of texture and colour. The rectangular format of the business card size pieces does not frame the view or mimic the world but these aspects are contained within the line, shapes, colour or texture; using paint, collage, text, stenciling and buried papers prepared by myself.  Exploring a beautiful space is created in that area below the threshold of consciousness. This requires working intuit...

and accept ... beautiful space explores the use of line, colour, surfaces that fill a space beautifully, with meaning
